Hello to anyone who stumbles across this page.  This was my first blog attempt at blogging.  I have now set up a new blog at AffiliatePlayground.net where I continue my journey to make money working online.

A feed of the most recent 10 posts on AffiliatePlayground.net can be located on the right hand side bar to this page, along with a list of all the posts on this site.

Cheers,

Tom

Well, after registering a new domain name and setting up a new blog on learnhowtomakemoneyontheinternet.net, I have realised that this url is way too long to be memorable.  Plus it sounds a bit spammy.

My aim with that name was to stuff as many different relevant target keywords in to the url.  Such as:

  • Learn How to Make Money on the Internet
  • How to Make Money on the Internet
  • Learn to Make Money on the Internet
  • Learn How to Make Money
  • How to Make Money
  • Make Money on the Internet

While a great idea in theory, it was quite a mouthful to mention to someone, and frankly I would rather be able to proudly announce the title of my blog.  Something lacking with this option.

So true to my roots, I have registered affiliateplayground.net and will be starting my refined and keyword targeted blog there.

Hope to catch you there.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Blog,

Much has happened since my last post.  Most importantly, I have finally bitten the bullet and opted to purchase a domain name.  So rather than continue on this site, my development as an internet marketer will be reported on my new blog, Learn How to Make Money on the Internet.

I may still play around with a few things here, but my primary focus will be on this new site.

So what prompted this?  Sean Rasmussen released a product called Year of the Blogger, which I eagerly signed up for and have been working my way through ever since.  While Year of the Affiliate covers affiliate marketing generally, Year of the Blogger is specifically dedicated to making money from blogging.  I’ll post a review of it eventually, but for now I’ll be off applying it.

A very exciting time, which has involved a ton of keyword research and plenty of planning regarding what niches I want to target.

Catch you on my new blog.

Cheers,

Tom

Learning to Make Money Working Online is currently one of my key goals. Why?

I probably don’t need to go into why how much money a person has affects their health, their lifestyle and the opportunities available to them. While money alone can’t buy fulfilment, a lack of money can mean considerable hardship. So all things being equal, it is generally better to have more money than less.

Time = Money

Why Make Money Working Online Rather Than Elsewhere?

There are plenty of ways to trade time for money. But as I only have so much time and various other commitments, my ability to trade time for money is quite limited. Therefore I need to ensure that I treat my time as a finite resource and use it efficiently.

One of the great things that the internet offers is scalability. For a given amount of effort, the results can be small or incredibly large – depending on how effective my methods are. It is not simply a matter of trading a set amount of time for a set amount of money.

The other thing I like about the internet is that the Web 2.0 has opened up some incredible opportunities via different types of social media websites. I also think that the internet is at the forefront of how technology affects our day to day lives, and is a pretty exciting thing to learn about.

Working Online

Notice the word ‘working’ in my goal – this is there for a couple of quite important reasons.

Firstly, I don’t expect to be able to immediately make a fortune online, rather it is something to chip away at and generate results over time. My aim here is to gradually make money working online, rather than to burnout and get discouraged before I have achieved any results. The aim is to continually and steadily improve.

Secondly, it is important to acknowledge that making money from the web will involve some work, and will not simply be a complete holiday once I have found a magic product or method for generating cash online. Adopting this mindset will minimise the risk involved as it lowers the temptation to get involved in some of the ‘get rich quick’ scams or riskier strategies available.

In my next post I will go into a bit of detail regarding Internet Marketing Affiliate Programs, why I have chosen web marketing as my method to start building an online income, and some initial things to be wary of.

For anyone who wants to jump straight ahead to learning some of the strategies involved, here is a link to a free ebook outlining how to make money working online.

Cheers,

Tom

Since my last post I have given this blog quite a makeover.  As part of getting this blog in shape I have:

  1. Done a complete review of my target market and the key words I want to focus on using Market Samurai;
  2. Changed my theme several times and settled on one which has super customisation features;
  3. Spent hours searching for blog headers online, only to find the perfect one in some of my holiday snaps;
  4. Set up the key structure, widgets and plugins;
  5. Written a review of the Year of the Affiliate eBook;
  6. Reviewed all of the fantastitc step by step WordPress blog setup videos available in the YOTA Forum.

I think that this blog is now in a form that I am happy to publicise.  It is an interesting time to reflect upon what I have learned so far.

First Steps

Perhaps the most important thing I learned during this initial blog process, and the hardest step for me, is to just make a start.  I figure that the rest is just continual improvement.  To begin with baby steps; to begin small but think big.

I have plenty of ideas flowing now about new posts to write, pages to add and things that I can do to improve and build upon what I started.  In particular, I have decided to focus this blog on a couple of key points:

  1. Learning to Make Money Working Online; and
  2. Doing this using Internet Affiliate Marketing Programs

I expect that there will be plenty more about each of these in upcoming posts.

Next Steps

I expect that my next steps will be to:

  1. Post in a bit more detail about the new found focus of this blog;
  2. Get feedback from any and all regarding how this blog is going so far;
  3. Purchase an appropriate domain;
  4. Start publicising and building links back to this blog;
  5. Look at building pages on Squidoo and Facebook regarding the article I mentioned in my last post (I didn’t win the article challenge, but the feedback received was most helpful); and
  6. Continuing to learn as much as I can about affiliate marketing.

So this is my action plan for now, and I expect that it will keep me busy for a while.  I’ll be offline for a couple of weeks starting on Saturday, but look forward to picking things up when I return.

If you have taken the time to check out my blog, please let me know what you think by leaving a comment. I welcome the feedback.

Cheers,

Tom
